Bruce Sapp Obituary

Of Churchill, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at 62 years young after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He was the much loved younger brother of Walter (Laurie), Gary (Kim), and Mark. Son of the late Walter and Lois (Frishkorn) Sapp and an exceptional Uncle to many nieces and nephews by blood and by bond.

Bruce was a kind soul and as tough as nails. As a young man he was a standout football player at Churchill High School and then led the field at Wesley Collegiate Institute (Delaware) prior to obtaining his Bachelor degree at the University of Maryland. Upon returning to Pittsburgh, he co-founded Marketable Services where he continued to work for 40 years. He will be remembered by employees as a "kind and good boss". He was also an avid runner, an investment guru, a baseball card collector, a stats guy before stats were cool, a role model, and an intellectual with a big heart who spent countless hours taking care of his parents in their twilight years. He would open up conversations for debate, carefully listen to your side and respond thoughtfully.

Bruce was an active member of the Churchill Wilkins Rotary Club for more than three decades where he served an unprecedented seven years as President (2008-2014).  In recognition of his tireless service to the club and community, he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Recognition in June 2016 and the Churchill Wilkins Rotary Club President Emeritus designation.  He was instrumental in establishing the Churchill Wilkins Rotary Founders Endowed Scholarship in 2011, for the Community College of Allegheny County/Boyce Campus. Two of his favorite annual fundraisers were the Superbowl Pool and the golf outing. Through his connections and persistence, Bruce single handedly would get 40 or more community members to purchase a block in the pool and more than a half dozen tee sponsors for the golf outing.

Bruce enriched so many lives. He will be remembered as a great guy with a great laugh, and he will be missed dearly.

Less than two weeks prior to his death he expressed a strong desire to establish the Bruce T. Sapp Churchill Wilkins Rotary Club Endowed Scholarship at the Community College of Allegheny County Educational Foundation.
