Caleb “Cobra” Cornell
Of Garfield, age 41, passed away in the presence of his partner Holly, his father Bill, and his father’s partner, Mick, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Caleb grew up in Gibsonia with his brothers and his parents, William F. and Stephanie Neal Cornell, in an 1825 farm house. He always had a deep love of music and often found his way into Pittsburgh, sometimes with permission but more often without, to visit the music scenes around the city. He did not care for the way outsiders were treated in our society and this passion was part of his reason for the formation of the punk group Wrath Cobra. They played here in Pittsburgh and toured the US, as well as two tours in Europe. As his life began to center more in the city, he moved into work in the service industry, working at Mad Mex and Harris Grill, before managing and buying Kelly’s Bar and Lounge in East Liberty. Caleb was always his own person. Compromise did not come easily to Caleb, but generosity did. Professionally, he was well known for his gruff exterior. For those who had the chance to really know Caleb, they met his sweet and tender self. He is survived by his partner, Holly Callender of Pittsburgh; father Bill Cornell (Mick Landaiche) of Garfield; mother Stephanie Neal Cornell of Oakmont; his brothers Seth Cornell (Ghadah Alrawi) of Taipei, Taiwan, and Noah Cornell (Carlotta Curti) of Ukiah, CA; and nephews, Noor, Zeki, and Abel.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Penn Forest Natural Burial Park, 121 Colorado Street, Verona PA 15147, on Sunday, June 30, at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Caleb’s memory may be given to a fund to support his staff during the temporary closure of Kelly’s at www.wolfepgh.com. Arrangements by Wolfe Memorial, LLC, 412-731-5001.
