Christine Turnock Hinde Schmidt, 77, of Cutler Bay, Florida, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami from complications of rheumatoid arthritis.
Christine is survived by her children, Andrew (Dina) Hinde of Woodbridge, Virginia; Matthew (Lindsay) Hinde of Coppell, Texas; Jessica Hinde of Cutler Bay, Florida; David (Nori) Schmidt of Charlotte, North Carolina; and by her beloved grandchildren, Derrick, Derrell, Cosette, Jackson, Thomas, and Arabel Hinde.
She is also survived by her siblings, Ann Turnock of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; James (Alison) Turnock of St. Petersburg, Florida; Laura Bruns of Murrysville, Pennsylvania; and Julia Stahr of Dunedin, Florida.
Christine will be remembered as a hard-working educator who had a lasting impact on the hundreds of students she taught throughout her career and especially at Gulliver Preparatory School, where she taught AP social studies, world history, and baccalaureate courses until 2019. She grew up in Pittsburgh and was a proud alumna of Penn State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education, and a loyal Penn State football fan throughout her life. She later earned her master’s degree from Florida International University.
A lover of quiz shows, Christine was a two-day champion on Jeopardy! in 2002 when Alex Trebek was host. An avid reader, she will be missed by her fellow book club members. Christine was also an active member of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, where she deepened her strong faith, and found friends and community. She will be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, humor and devotion to others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held Beulah Presbyterian Church, 2500 McCrady Road, Pittsburgh PA 15235, on Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to a reception in the church hall immediately following.
