Obituary

Of Forest Hills, age 75, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, April 30, 2023.

Eleanor Ann Rodrigues was born in McKeesport, PA on December 28, 1947, the daughter of Marion and Anna Marie Srdoch.

As a young woman, Eleanor loved to learn. She enjoyed spending time with her mother, learning how to cook, clean, and keep the house. She cherished the Croatian culture, traditions, and language of her parents and grandparents. Her love of learning only increased at Churchill High School and later she was so proud to attend Duquesne University where she graduated suma cum laude with a degree in business education.

Eleanor met her husband, Bob, while studying at Duquesne in 1966. They were married in 1974, and together for 57 years.

A born teacher, Eleanor taught at Swissvale High School and Dennison Elementary but her most cherished role was staying at home and raising her six children. She nurtured her children with strong, moral Catholic values and instilled in each of them her love of learning; a sense of pride in themselves and their community; and a willingness and desire to serve others. Most importantly, Eleanor always taught her children to stick together.

Eleanor took so much pride in her community and especially the pool where she made so many dear friends. She had a quick wit, always ready with a corny comment or song. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was the most wonderful Grammy, and is dearly missed.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, Robert Rodrigues, children, Robert, Matthew (Monica), Justin, Nicole Rial (Chris), Annmarie and Peter. She will always be the beloved Grammy of Anna, Nicholas, Elizabeth, and Mariann Rodrigues, and Blaise and Luka Rial. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Carol) Srdoch of Hudson, Ohio, many dear cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was and will continue to be the rock of her family. She was the eternal caregiver, devoted to caring for her mother, children, and grandchildren. She was the heart of every celebration, every holiday, every day. She was profoundly humble, never wanting any thanks or attention. From behind the scenes, she supported everything her husband and children accomplished and achieved.  The genuine love and devotion she gave to her family is the hallmark of her life.
