Elvio "Al" DiLucente
After a prolonged illness, Elvio "Al" DiLucente, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted brother to the late Elia (Joseph) Dobrenich, Bruno (Helen) DiLucente, Adelmino (Pat) DiLucente, Bertha (John) Bernard, Enrico (Gerry) DiLucente, and Dominick (Joanne) DiLucente.
Born on August 29, 1933, to Filiberto and Dorudina (Lalli) DiLucente, Elvio dedicated his life to his family and craft. He is survived by his cherished wife of 62 years Mary DiLucente, and their three children: Richard (Sheree) DiLucente, Desiree DiLucente, and Eric (Bethany) DiLucente. He also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, Demetri (Whitney) DiLucente and Roman DiLucente.
Elvio was a builder in every sense of the word. He was a stonemason by trade who spent years erecting iconic Pittsburgh structures. Always a family man, you’d be hard pressed to find a DiLucente who did not spend some time with Elvio finishing concrete, hoisting shingles or digging a ditch. Even if you were not an official DiLucente, when you walked through his door, Elvio treated you like you came from Fleet Street. He offered you a shot of Crown, a bit of homemade sausage and seat for you to sit back and listen to one of his jovial tales from yesteryears. He was always quick with a gentle rib and kind word to put people at ease and make them feel like they had always been part of the family.
Beyond construction, Elvio also built a life with a durable foundation based on love, loyalty, hard work and a lot of fun. In 1961 Elvio went into the hospital for a back injury where he met Mary and fell in love at first sight. They began their relationship with Mary taking care of Elvio, spent a lifetime tending to one another, and said their goodbyes with Mary once again being the ever-attentive caregiver.
Elvio was not only proud of his children and grandchildren, but he was also proud of the whole DiLucente famiglia. He knew he belonged to a special group of people, he showed his love and appreciation for them every day in the tales that were told keeping their stories alive.
Elvio will be remembered for his dedication, love, and the strong legacy he leaves behind in his family and community.
