Garnet Ethelda Clark, 98, of Oakmont, PA, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, January 12, 2025. She was born on March 25, 1926, in Chicora, PA, to Arthur Garfield and Ethel E. (Whyte) Mourer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Paul Clark; her son, Charles Paul Clark; her six beloved brothers and their dear spouses; and treasured in-laws from her husband’s family. She is survived by her children, Ruth Anne Shaw (Dana Powers Shaw), Patricia Sue Kowalski (John Zenon Kowalski), and Calvin Glenn Clark (Linda Sue Haynie), as well as her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Jo Clark. Garnet is also survived by 11 grandchildren, their spouses, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and cherished friends.
Garnet earned her degree in elementary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and began her teaching career in Bellevue, PA, later returning to the classroom to share her love of learning with countless students.
A natural leader, Garnet served as president of her college sorority, the Churchill Garden Club, the Beulah Church Women’s Association, and chair of the Pittsburgh Women 2000 racial reconciliation group. She also served as a church Elder, a Bible study leader, and welcome director of new member programs at both Longwood and Beulah Presbyterian Church. Garnet’s grace, compassion, and servant-hearted affection left a lasting impact, inspiring growth, connection, and purpose in all who knew her.
Garnet had a gift for making the world around her more beautiful. As a skilled painter of fine china and a member of the Pittsburgh Porcelain Artists, she created cherished works of art for her family and friends. Her passion for gardening and flowers—especially roses—brought joy to her home and community, and her graceful style and elegance shone in everything she did.
Garnet’s deep and abiding faith in her Lord Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life and the source of her strength. Throughout her life, she was a devoted member of her church, where she taught adults and children, sang in the choir and as a soloist. Her faith guided her every action, nurturing her family, ministering to others, and creating a home filled with love, grace, and fellowship. Garnet’s unwavering devotion to God and her ministry to others remain her greatest legacy.
