Ingeborg "Inge" Farrell Obituary

Ingeborg (‘Inge’) Farrell passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, at the age of 83. She was a longtime resident of Churchill, but was born in Germany on March 11, 1942, and came to America at the age of 11.

Inge was the beloved wife of Richard “Dick” J. Farrell for 57 years. She also is survived by her three daughters, Kirsten Crosby (Bruce) of Franklin, TN, Ingrid Davis of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Erika Phenner (Chris) of Northbrook, IL; and her grandchildren, Tim (Ann-Robert), Sarah, Kaitlyn and Erin Crosby; Matthew Davis; Will and Harrison Phenner.

Inge graduated from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, in 1966 and went on to become a teacher at several Pittsburgh area schools. Then fate stepped in when she went on a blind date in 1967 meeting Dick whom she married five months later on February 18, 1968. To this day, Dick wonders why he had to wait so long to get married?

Once Dick completed his service in the Navy, they settled in Pittsburgh and worked together running the family business, Guentert’s Bakery. After 54 years, Inge and Dick closed Guentert’s Bakery and retired in September 1999. We still are not sure who was the boss.

Inge felt so blessed to have had three daughters and poured her heart into raising them. She always found time to celebrate her family and friends and all who knew her felt so loved. She was a devout Christian with a strong faith that guided her throughout her life and was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church for 70 years.

Inge enjoyed playing the piano and attending the symphony and opera in both Pittsburgh and Naples, FL. She loved to read and cherished her book club. Inge was an avid gardener and member of the Churchill Garden Club. Her beautiful yard brought her much happiness and was the backdrop to many, many family photos.

Inge’s love for her family only continued to grow as the family expanded with the addition of each grandchild. She found her greatest joy later in life as a grandmother to her seven grandchildren. Grammy, as she was affectionately known, was the role she was meant to be!

A private family service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
