Jeanne A. Humes
Age 76, of Churchill Borough, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, after struggling with Parkinson's and dementia. She was born February 10, 1948, the daughter of William Howard and Jean (Purviance) Humes and grew up in Aspinwall and Allison Park, graduating from Hampton High School in 1966. She then attended Maryville College in Tennessee and worked as a medical technologist at Columbia, St. Margaret’s, and Metro Hospitals. After leaving the medical field, she was a school bus driver primarily for St. Edmund's Academy.
Her love of music led her to become an accomplished trumpeter for over 50 years. She played with The Savoyards, The Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra, high school and college bands, weddings and church ensembles as well as singing in church choirs. She served her church as a Deacon, Elder, Stephen Minister, Handbell choir and sang in many church choirs in her life. She has been a member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church since 2011. She loved to travel and was able to visit many places in the world she never thought she would visit.
She is survived by her close personal friend and companion Carol Heimerich, and by her sister Holly Humes of Mentor, Ohio. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her older brother, William (Lois) Humes, Jr., and younger brother Roy (Mariann Lynch) Humes of Virginia.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" service for Jeanne on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00am at the Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Avenue, Oakmont PA 15139. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Friends of Music at Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Avenue, Oakmont PA 15139, or the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, 4-West Montefiore Univ. Hospital Room 421, 200 Lothrop Street, Pittsburgh PA 15213.
