John Timothy Carr

November 29, 1950 ~ October 2, 2020 (age 69)

Of Regent Square, age 69, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, October 2, 2020, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Tim was born on November 29, 1950, in New Castle, PA, during the historic Bessemer snowstorm where his parents had to follow the snowplow to the hospital. He was the son of Harold Spencer Carr and Frances Addicott Griffin Carr, and he and his two brothers were raised in Bessemer, PA. His family was active in church choirs throughout his life. Tim attended Mohawk High School, received a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Westminster College, and a Masters degree in Special Education from West Virginia University. He worked for the University of Pittsburgh for 40 years, where he dedicated his career to non-traditional students as an academic advisor in the College of General Studies. After his retirement, Tim volunteered with Humane Animal Rescue Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and was a lifelong learner through Osher. He was a choir member, deacon, and active supporter at First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood. He loved his community and supported many local and national charities. Tim enjoyed genealogy, classical music, pet-sitting, and he was a prolific haiku writer. He loved maps and was an expert planner of road trips, especially to America's National Parks. He always noticed the small details of nature and frequently surprised and delighted his family with his creative spirit.

Tim is survived by his daughters, Sarah Carr of Edgewood, and Claire Carr (fiancé Kevyn Reinholt) of Greenfield; his former wife and dear friend, Pat Carr of Oakmont; his brother Tom Carr (Chris) of Missouri; sister-in-law Carol Carr of Plum; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim Carr.
