John Hanish, III Obituary

John Paul Hanish III (known as JP by family and friends), age 39, of Forest Hills, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Saturday, March 8, 2025. JP, formerly of Lake Silkworth, PA, was a 2003 graduate of Lake Lehman High School. Throughout his high school years, JP won various awards including the honorable John Miliauskas Award and was proud of his accomplishments in the Lake Lehman Band.

John Paul graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in computer science and was employed by various companies in the Pittsburgh area. His last employer was Covestro as a Principal Developer of Software. JP played in the University Band during his years at Pitt where he made many lifelong friends. He was an avid Pitt Panthers, Penguins and Steelers fan often attending and traveling to games.

He is survived by his parents, Jack and Jean Hanish of Dallas, PA; his sister Jennifer, and her husband Tierney Gavin of New City, NY, as well as nephews Michael and Matthew and niece Jillian. JP was a devoted dog owner to his loyal companion PJ for over 10 years.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 8:45am at Saint Faustina Church in Nanticoke, PA, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00am. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Slovak Cemetery. As requested by Saint Faustina Church, no flowers are permitted during lent. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in John’s memory to support his appreciation of music. Donations can be made to the Lake Lehman High School Band at P.O. Box 143, Lehman PA 18627, or the University of Pittsburgh Band Alumni Council at P.O. Box 3754, Pittsburgh PA 15230-3754.
