Joseph Mandella Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Joseph Mandella, who left us on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the age of 92. He was a devoted father, a cherished friend, and a man who lived his life with kindness, generosity, and love of family. Born on May 3, 1932, in McKeesport, a son of the late Joseph & Rose (Siwiec) Mandella. Joe was married to Eileen (Kirasic) Mandella for 67 years. He is survived by his wife Eileen, and daughters Kimberly McGuigan (John), Michelle Schwartz (Craig), Laurie Churma (Duane), and Beth Muchnok (Kevin). He was also a loving grandfather to Dr. Chelsea Schwartz, Demi Schwartz, Kate Muchnok, Sean Muchnok, Brooke Churma, Montana Churma, and three great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his grandson Kody Churma, his brother Vincent F. Mandella, and his sister Rita Hudson.

Joe was a proud and loving father. His devotion to his daughters was unparalleled—whether helping with home repairs, decorating for the holidays, or making countless trips to faraway locations to help with family pets and projects, he was always there when family needed him. A passionate and avid golfer, Joe found joy in the game, often sharing his love for the sport with family and friends. He was also a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and took great pride in cheering for his team. In addition to his love for sports, he spent many years in a bowling league, where his competitive spirit and camaraderie with fellow bowlers brought him great joy. Joe had a passion for gardening, reading and had a natural talent for crossword puzzles, which kept his mind sharp. He enjoyed classical music and was always up to date on current events, engaging in thoughtful conversations about the world around him.

Joe graduated from McKeesport High School and became a professional electrician with IBEW Local 5. Prior to his retirement, he worked on numerous projects for TECO and Kirby Electric. A highlight of his career was to serve as an electrical foreman on the construction of the Pittsburgh International Airport and the PPG Building. Joe was also a U.S. Army Veteran, serving his country with honor. Joe was a man of integrity and boundless love. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a devoted father, a loyal friend — his love and guidance will forever be treasured. Private burial in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
