Of Wilkins Twp., age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Loving mother of George L. Bender (Grace Henning) of Penn Hills and John B. Bender (Karen) of the North Side. Proud grandmother of Elizabeth Bender Henning. Sister of Dr. Rita M. Windisch (Dr. Richard Danchik) of Wilkins Twp. and the late John L. Windisch.
Marcella was born on the North Side on June 12, 1930, the daughter of Louis and Katherine (Dill) Windisch. She was called "Mar" by her husband, John Francis Bender, who preceded her in death. Once her children were in school, she embarked on many creative endeavors including yoga classes, art school, floral arranging, and singing. She was a talented artist who won awards for her paintings and was a member of Pittsburgh Center for the Arts in Shadyside. She enjoyed dressing stylishly on a budget. She was a wonderful cook and became supervisor of the school cafeteria at Martin Luther King Elementary School and also a teaching assistant in art. She volunteered for Pittcon Chemistry Conference. She sang with Teutonia Mannerchor and St. Boniface Church choir and loved to attend the Pittsburgh Symphony with her son. She loved dogs and had many over the years including two Alaskan Malamutes. The family would like to thank the staff of Eldercrest Healthcare & Rehab and Suncrest Hospice for the excellent care they provided.
Friends received at Wolfe Memorial, LLC, Forest Hills Chapel, 3600 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh PA 15221, on Wednesday and Thursday, May 29 and 30, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Fisher Church of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, on Friday, May 31, at 9:30am. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Ross Twp.
