Col. (Retired) Mark C. Flake, IV

Col. Mark C. Flake, IV, of Givens Estates in Asheville, NC, formerly of Salem, OH, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 28, 2023, after a long illness. He was born on April 26, 1940, in Berkley, California, to Mark C. Flake, III and Jane P. Flake.

Mark had a rewarding career in the United States Air Force for 27 years before retiring in 1989 and enjoyed being stationed both stateside and overseas. After his retirement, Mark welcomed the opportunity to travel extensively with his wife Sandi and focus on his golf game, community service, gardening, collecting books and coins, and spending time with family and friends. He was an actively involved member of Rotary Club International and First Presbyterian Church in Salem, Ohio. He is remembered fondly for his love of classic cars, playing poker and bridge, and his model train collection.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mark C. Flake, III and Jane P. Flake; Sandra’s parents James and Vida Chapman; his sister Linda D. Shepherd; and his daughter Susan Lynn Flake. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Sandra S. Flake; son Jeffrey Flake (Cindy) of Bryson City, NC; daughter Sharon Eisenhart (Heather) of Bristol, VA; and grandchildren Chloe, Adam, and Elliott. He is also survived by niece Dorsey DeMaster, nephew Darin Shepherd, and their families.

Friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors held at William Penn Cemetery, Churchill. Please meet at Wolfe Memorial, LLC, Forest Hills Chapel, 3604 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh PA 15221, on Monday, June 12, to join the procession which will leave to travel to the cemetery at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mark's name to First Presbyterian Church, 436 East 2nd Street, Salem OH 44460-2816.
