Mildred Quinette Obituary

"The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord."  And so, Mildred "Millie" D. Quinette, faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ, received her final earthly blessing and was called to her eternal home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Millie was born on October 25, 1925, in Harrisville, PA to Claire and Margaret (Hartley) Dyer. She had two sisters, Lois and Dorothy, and a brother Claire, all now deceased. She is survived by sister-in-law Doris Dyer of Harrisville, PA, and brother-in-law Richard Quinette of Osborne, KS, as well as several nieces and nephews throughout the country.

She was a charter member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) and she has lived as well as witnessed its history from her home in the Pittsburgh, PA, area. In her weakness, service, and perseverance we witnessed a reflection of the church she loved. As a small child she was diagnosed with St. Vitus Dance, a chronic neurologic condition. Her doctors said that she would never drive a car or get married. "I did both and much more by God's grace," she delighted in saying. She was employed at Grove City College for about 10 years prior to her marriage. In 1945 she received her course certificate in Scripture Truth from Moody Bible Institute. She was active in her church and gained many friends in other OPC congregations. A special young man from Covenant OPC in Pittsburgh, Edward Quinette, would become her husband on July 8, 1955. They had a short stay in Middletown, PA, but made their forever home in the Pittsburgh area and worshiped at Covenant OPC. The Quinettes had no children of their own but were foster parents to a son Richard, now deceased.

Edward operated a Sunoco gas station near their home and Millie was busy with their home and son, and with Trinity Christian School Association. At the school's 60th Anniversary Celebration she was honored for her many years of service to the school. She served two terms as president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Presbytery of Ohio and was a speaker at many events. The doors to the Quinette home were always open: a yearly July 4th picnic for the entire church, visiting missionaries, and caregivers for her parents and two aunts, one of whom lived to the age of 100.

The Quinettes had a homespun mission field until Edward developed heart problems and they moved from their home to a small neighborhood apartment. In December of 2005, having celebrated 50 years of marriage, the Lord called Edward to his eternal home. In 2011 Millie, at age 86 and now using a walker, was asked to speak at the 75th anniversary of the OPC, a very special experience for her.

About 10 years ago Millie moved into Seneca Hills Village in Penn Hills, PA, sharing a dining table with two dear friends from Covenant OPC for several years. For the past 4 years Millie has lived at Seneca Manor in Penn Hills, PA. Millie, like all of us, was not perfect, but she was enabled to live a life worthy of her Lord.
