Owen L. Lewis, Jr.

Of Edgewood, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. He was the son of special loving parents Owen L. Lewis and Helen Spears Lewis. Loving husband of Carol Ann (Snyder) and father of darling daughter Caryn Ann. Owen graduated from Wilkinsburg High School, Class of 1945, and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh "College" in 1950. He served in the US Air Force 1951 to 1959, four years active and four years inactive reserve, and received an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was fortunate to be employed by the Siciliano Family's Siciliano Interior Systems and Vinfred Interior Systems for over 30 years, with about 16 months in between with Massaro Corporation. He was a member and officer of the Edgewood Youth Activities Association, coaching boys' youth basketball and Little League baseball along with girls' youth basketball and softball. Through the EYAA, he was part of the founding of Edgewood Community Day. As a member of the Edgewood Community Club, he served as Secretary to the Board of Trustees, and was the representative to the Eastern Swim Association and the C.C. Mellor Library. He was a member of Lodge 45 Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania and a dedicated member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh, receiving the Meritorious Service Award and was honored in 2003 to be raised to a 33rd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Z-B Royal Arch Chapter No. 162, Islam Grotto, the Masonic Veterans, and the Legion of Honor. With grateful thanks to his parents who purchased a set of Harvard Junior Classics, they "authored" a desire for reading as a youth which extended in later years to historical novels, Westerns, science fiction, and mystery/adventure books. He was an avid golfer starting with the Sands Cue and Cushion group and continuing with membership at Edgewood Country Club where he attained "Founder" status. Much appreciation to the C.C. Mellor Library for fulfilling his "wishlists". Owen was also a 70+ year member of South Avenue United Methodist Church. Friends received at Wolfe Memorial, LLC, 3604 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh PA 15221, on Saturday from 10:30am until the time of services at 12:00 noon. Owen will be laid to rest with his family in Church Hill Cemetery.
