Rudolph "Rudy" Bocchicchio Obituary

Rudolph “Rudy” C. Bocchicchio, of East Pittsburgh, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30th, 2022, at his daughter Lynn’s home where he resided. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy “Dotty” Pezzillo Bocchicchio. He was the father of Lori Beto (John) of Clairton, Lynn Cisneros (Ignacio) of Chalfant Borough, and Leeann Miklos (Matt) of Trafford. After raising three daughters, Rudy became the grandfather of five grandsons: Jack Fraser (Jacqueline), Scott Fraser (Jenna H.), Anthony Fiume (Katie), Matt Miklos, Jr. (Anna H.), and Ignacio “Nacho” Cisneros Jr. Great Grandfather to Christopher Fraser, Elliott Fraser, and Rhonin Ayers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmine and Helen Capozzi Bocchicchio; and sisters, Antoinette Skrletts and Jean Zitelli, and brother, Mario Bocchicchio. In his heart he considered his “brothers” to be Frank M. Pezzillo Jr., his brother-in-law, of Prince George, VA., and Johnny V. Savio, his childhood best friend, of Carnegie.

Rudy grew up in East Liberty and graduated from Westinghouse High School, where he played football. Rudy was a great storyteller. He told funny stories about his time growing up and his shenanigans while working at Uncle Dom’s Drugstore. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Sergeant, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Rudy became an employee of the U.S. Postal Service as a Letter Carrier for many years in downtown Pittsburgh. He was then promoted as Supervisor at the Grant Street Station and also served as the Postal Union Representative, before retiring with over 30 years of service. Rudy and Dotty eventually moved to Beacon Hill. He considered himself to be a good negotiator and problem solver, as a councilman in Wilkinsburg. Rudy and Dotty raised their family in Forest Hills, where he coached football for the local Midget Football League. Rudy was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, especially his favorite player, Franco Harris, because of their Italian roots. Per his request, Rudy will be buried in his Franco Harris jersey which he wore during every game. Friends and family are encouraged to wear their Pittsburgh Steelers gear to Rudy's services.
