Russell George Jones

On Thursday, January 4, 2024, Russell "Russ" George Jones of Forest Hills went to be with his Heavenly Father at the age of 94.

Husband of the late Violet Goldie (Debreczeni) Jones. Brother of the late Richard L. Jones and George R. Jones.

He leaves behind his daughter, Violet Chaffinch (Randall); grandchildren Alyxis McLain (Chase), Emily Sammons (Shayne), Morgan Chaffinch, Richard Chaffinch; and four great-grandchildren.

Russ and his beloved wife Violet enjoyed Hungarian food and music and were always searching the city for places where it could be found.

Russ served in the Army in Korea from 1951 to 1953.  He was a mailman for 34 years. 

In retirement, Russ found a passion for lamp making. He began with Steeler lamps then added Alabama and Auburn when he moved to Birmingham in 2019. He gave them out as a token of gratitude and friendship and totaled well over 100. He also enjoyed sketching, many drawings inspired by scripture, also freely handed out.
