William McCloskey, age 74, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. He studied at Carnegie Mellon University and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh.
Bill had a long and distinguished career in journalism, writing for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Greensburg Tribune Review, and other local news media. He continued his professional career in public relations but never retired instead devoting time to researching local history and writing stories about the greater Pittsburgh area, many of which can be found on social media.
Bill was a loving son and thoroughly devoted to his mother, Clara (Schmitt), whom he cared for until her passing in 2015. He is survived by his sisters, Carol (James) Dankosky of South Carolina; Irene (Clint) Runco of Wilkins Township; and several nieces and nephews around the country. Although journalism was his profession, Bill's proudest accomplishment was his son, Jason, who resides in Pennsylvania.
Services private. For anyone so inclined, donations to local libraries may be made in Bill's name at loveyourlibrary.org.
